   Archery was invented about 30,000 to 50,000 years ago.

   The official association controlling Archery all over the world is known as World Archery. It was earlier known as FITA. The expansion for FITA is Federation Internationale de Tir a l'Arc.,

4. What is the name of the official association that controls Archery in India and who is it's founding president?
   
   AAI is the name of the official association that controls archery in India. Shri. Prof. V.K. Malhotra is the founding president of AAI.

5. What is the name of the official association in Tamil Nadu that controls Archery all over the state and is recognized by the AAI?
   
   TAAT - The Archery Association of Tamil Nadu is the association that controls Archery in Tamil Nadu and is recognized and affiliated to AAI.

6. What is the first bow that is used when one starts Archery? Why is it called so?
   
   The first bow that is used by beginners is called "The intuitive bow". It is known so as it does not have any sighter, is a bare bow and is used with logic and intuition, with the trial and error method.

7. What are the various kinds of bows used in Archery?
   
   The various kinds of bows used in archery are 1) The Tribal Bow, 2) The Intuitive Bow, 3) The Indian Bow, 4) TAAT Recurve Bow, 5) TAAT Compound Bow, 6) Olympic Recurve bow, 7) World Compound bow, 8) The English long bow, 9) YUMI (The Japanese Bow), and 10) The Cross bow.

8. How many arrows and at what distances are arrows shot in a Recurve FITA round?
   
   In a recurve round the no of arrows shot are:
   
   36 arrows at 30 mts, 50 mts, 70 mts & 90 mts for Men
   36 arrows at 30 mts, 50 mts, 60 mts & 70 mts for Women

9. What is the distance and how many arrows are shot, in compound?
   
   For Compound, 36 arrows x 2 times for 50 mtrs for Men & Girls (pls check)

10. What is an Olympic round?
    
    An Olympic round is held after the ranking rounds are done! Olympic round is also called as the elimination round. The top ranked 64 Archers are lined up. 1st ranked Archer will be paired up with the 64th ranked Archer, the 2nd ranked Archer will be paired with the 63rd ranked archer, etc., 32 Archers will be reduced 16, 16 Archers will be reduced to 8, 8 Archers will be reduced to 4, 4 Archers will be reduced to 2, loser of this will fight for Bronze & the winners will fight for Gold & Silver.

11. Describe the target face? What are the sizes of target faces used in each distance?
    
    The target face comprises of 5 colours namely White, Black, Blue, Red & Yellow and these are separated by a dividing line making it into 10 parts. The scores are X, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 from the centre respectively.
    
    For Recurve 122 cm (large) for 90 mts & 70 mts; 80 cms for 50mts; 40 cms for 30 mts (5 rings scoring)
    
    For Compound 40 cms for 50 mts (5 rings scoring) Blue, Red & Yellow

12. What are the distances we shoot with the Intuitive bow?
    
    We shoot 3 mts and 6 mts for Juniors. Boys & Girls - 36 arrows for each round.
    And we shoot 6 mts and 12 mts for for seniors (above 14). Boys & Girls - 36 arrows for each round.
    Target face - 80 cms for Intuitive.

13. What are the distances we shoot with TAAT Recurve and TAAT Compound?
    
    We shoot 10 mts & 20 mts for Junior Boys and Girls (below 14) and 20 mts and 30 mts for Senior Boys and Girls (above 14). 80 cms target faces.

14. What are the parts of Intuitive Bow?
    
    The parts of the Intuitive Bow are Handle Raiser, Upper Limb, Lower Limb, String, Knocking Point, Arrow Window & Arrow Rest.

15. What are the parts of the Arrow?
    
    The parts of the arrow are Shaft, Point/Head, Knock, 3 Fletches/Vanes/Feathers with one being an Index Vane or a Cock Feather (differently colored one).

16. What are the accessories in Intuitive Archery?
    
    Forearm Guard, Chest Guard, Quiver, Finger Tab, Bow Bag, Bow Stand.

17. What are the various belt levels in Archery at HU Archery Mission?
    
    1) White Belt, 2) White Belt with black stripe, 3) Black Belt, 4) Black Belt with white stripe, 5) Blue Belt, 6) Blue Belt with black stripe, 7) Red Belt, 8) Red Belt with black stripe, 9) Yellow Belt, and 10) Yellow Belt with an X.

    The archer who put Indian archery into the World Archery map by qualifying for the Olympics was LIMBA RAM. The three Olympic Archers are DOLA BANERJEE, DEEPIKA KUMARI & RAHUL BANERJEE.

19. Who is the father of Compound Archery in India?
    
    SANJEEV KUMAR SINGH introduced, taught and promoted Compound Archery in India and is aptly known as the father of Compound Archery in India.

20. What is ABC of Archery at the HU Archery Mission?
    
    A stands for Awareness that anything can be achieved through Archery.

In a keenly contested series of shoot outs, many probables were eliminated and many surprise winners ruled the day.

The second edition of the weekly archery competitions drew 35 archers at the mission's 30 mts archery field today!

As the sun scorched, the highly motivated archers fought matches in the 'INTUITIVE ARCHERY' section!

Earlier Guru HU led ...the team of warriors into meditative exercises and started the BHODHANAI session.

Excerpts from his address.

"The formula for success is HU +HU +HU !"

More than anything else, suffering is a great motivator. My school teacher named Gandhi used to taunt me everyday for wearing a torn brown shirt. One day he made me stand on the bench. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as I walked out of the class, and headed for the headmasters room. I told the HM that I wanted my TC. When I narrated to him how the teacher was taunting me for wearing the same shirt everyday, he was outraged when he found that our family was going thru terrible times after the death of my father and I had only one torn shirt that I used to wear everyday after washing it in the night! He immediately took me to the class room and asked the teacher to get out and he was suspended for 15 days. The headmaster gave a speech to my class that I shall never forget. The greatest motivators to a human are three HUs. HUrt HUmiliation and HUrdles!

Wait and see, some day Hussaini will reach for the skies! "We now need to undergo lots of hurt, humiliation and hurdles to attain our mission of winning the gold in the next Olympics! And let me promise that with me, the fourth HU, an Olympic win in Archery, is certainly going to become a reality!"

Sri Charan won the Silver medal and a cash award and Ashwanth won the Bronze with a cash award!

Six archers who did not attend the session have been removed from the 'Mission team'.

They won't be taught archery by GURU HU anymore.

Dear Archery family,

This has relevance to the announcement of the government that the Archery Association of India (AAI) has been de-recognized.

While we all know that it is a political game and a reckless arm twisting tactic of the government that will soon be sorted out by our capable leaders at AAI.

The 33rd Senior Recurve, Compound and Para Archery Championships scheduled from 26th to 31st December, 2012 to be conducted at Anna University Sports Grounds, Chennai, will go on as announced, flawlessly!.

As the organizers of the event, we will take extra efforts to make you comfortable and make sure any unfortunate decisions by the government will only strengthen our resolve to conduct the event in a grand manner.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF ARCHERY WILL GET STRONGER WITH EACH HURDLE WE CROSS AND SHALL MAKE US MORE CLOSE-KNIT AS A SPORTING FAMILY.

Good day. The Nationals are nearing.

There are just five days for you land in Chennai. Many of you are competing for the top positions in the country in Archery.

Tamil Nadu too is competing ... but to get the name of "THE BEST EVER HOST FOR A NATIONALS".

We are doing everything possible to make this a memorable event. More than any other time, this Nationals is a crucial one as Archery as well as Indian sports is passing through some tough times. We need your support to make this a huge success.

We need to remain united in our brotherhood and put the sport on the fast track - ROAD TO RIO!

Every body who comes to a Nationals want to go back with a medal. And our first promise to you is "NO ONE WILL GO BACK EMPTY HANDED".

For those who do not win medals you will go back with a "souvenir" you will most cherish.

Some Senior Archers wanted to have an extra day of shooting so that alternative shooting can be kept on the morning of 31st Dec. to make the sport more exciting.

As organizers, we wish to keep you all happy and would not mind extending it, so with the permission of AAI and all the State Coaches and Managers we can take a call on this in the Managers meeting on 26th Dec evening.

Please kindly note that while we are doing our best to make you all comfortable, to the best of our abilities, for the teams coming before 26th Dec' 12 Noon, it would be impracticable to arrange food. So please take care of your food before 26th Noon and after 31st Noon. On 26th dec catering starts from Lunch and catering ends at 31st Dec Lunch. On 26th Dec and 31st Dec, Lunch will be provided.

However we are happy to inform you that we shall provide you accommodations from the time you arrive till the time you leave taking into account the difficulty you have in booking train tickets.

PUBLIC WARNING!

THE URGENT NEED TO BAN ILLEGAL ARCHERY SCHOOLS AND COACHES!

Archery is an amazin art but a double edged sword. While a properly trained archer can use his archery to refine his mind, body and soul; a person trained from an illegal school, an imposter of a coach can turn out to be a menace to society and a criminal bringing disgrace to the entire archery community.

A legal school is defined as a school run by a coach who has been trained and certified by World Archery, AAI or the official state body. A legal school needs to be recognised and affiliated to the official state body ( TAAT in the case of Tamilnadu ) and an official state body is one which is affiliated to the official national body ( AAI - in the case of India ). Anyone can check this out in the internet with official websites.

A legal coach is one who has been properly trained by either the official state body, the official national body or the official international body - 'World Archery'.

In Tamilnadu, I have been leading an high intensity campaign to ban all illegal archery associations, illegal archery schools and illegal archery coaches.

My demand was that every person who joins archery needs to be screened for his criminal antecedents and monitored continuously for criminal activities. Every archer needs to be licensed and his equipment needs to be registered in a registry in the line of fire arms. ( please check our webpage www.tamilnaduarchery.com - equipment registry )

There was stiff opposition to this and in fact cases were filed against me by the illegal schools that I was doing something that was not practised anywhere else in the country.

I warned everyone that some big incident is bound to happen and then everyone will wake up to it.

The incident has now happened.

In a shocking incident two archers who were trained by an illegal school by an illegal coach have brought shame to the entire archery fraternity by using their Archey skills to smash car windows with metal balls propelled by slings and steal the valuables inside.

It's seems there were involved in over 100 cases and have apartments in Delhi with the illgotten money.

The two so called archers were never trained by me or any legal coach or legal school in Tamilnadu and they were never part of any proposed national team ever.

We are trying to find out who they learnt Archery from.

The registration and screening procedures in TAAT are comprehensive and we would never have trained anyone if there were even slight shades of delinquency in them.

It is very unfortunate that fake archery coaches and fake archery schools claiming are sprouting in many places in Tamilnadu. Leading this bunch of fake schools is "Vill Archery", "Eagle Archery" and imposters like Vasu and Udaykumar of Chennai, one Ravichandran of Mayiladuthurai and one Ramesh from Salem with units claiming affiliation to a fake field archery association.

TAAT is redoubling its efforts to bring them to the notice of law enforcement authorities.

We warn the public to be careful of fake archery schools and fake archery coaches to prevent a more serious incident from happening!
